Man accused of breaking into cars at local apartment complex

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Winston County man was accused of breaking into cars at an Oktibbeha County apartment complex.

William Sullivan, 19, turned himself into Oktibbeha County deputies Friday morning.

He’s charged with two counts of auto burglary.

Deputies first started investigating the break-ins about two months ago at the Retreat Apartments.

Sullivan’s bond was set at $20,000.

Lt. Jon Davis said several apartments in the city and county are being hit by thieves right now. He encouraged everyone, including returning students to lock their doors and don’t leave valuables inside their vehicle.

Eight grams of meth allegedly seized from Oktibbeha County home

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Maben couple is facing drug charges.

Curtis and Chassidy Lucas were both arrested at their Chestnut Street home Thursday.

Curtis Lucas was charged with possession of a schedule two drug and possession of paraphernalia.

Chassidy Lucas also faces a paraphernalia charge, along with disorderly conduct.

Child Protective Services asked deputies for an escort to the Lucas home, once inside they found the alleged drugs.

Investigators said eight grams of meth was seized.

The duo remains in jail.

Fourth arrest made after string of break-ins in Lowndes County neighborhood

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A fourth arrest has been made after a number of break-ins in a Lowndes County neighborhood.

Nelshon Brewer was charged with four counts of burglary of an auto.

Chief Deputy Greg Wright said the Sherwood Forest neighborhood was hit hard over a 48 hour period, last week.

Property was stolen, vehicles were burglarized and an SUV was stolen.

Monroe Richards Jr., Tavion Drungo and Jeremiah Payne were also arrested in connection with the investigation.

Deputies believed the group could be connected to other burglaries across the county.

Lt. Tony Cooper said Brewer remains in jail.

Clay County man accused of beating girlfriend with crutch

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A man is West Point is accused of beating his girlfriend with a crutch.

Andrew Eggerson, 37, was arrested early Monday morning.

He’s charged with domestic violence-aggravated assault.

Police Chief Avery Cook said the alleged incident happened on Cromwell Street.

The victim drove herself to the hospital to be checked out, after being hit with the piece of medical equipment.

Eggerson remains in the Clay County jail.

Amory man charged with vulnerable adult abuse or neglect

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – An Amory man was accused of locking his elderly mother in a room.

Now he’s in jail, charged with abuse.

Johnny Spratt, 56, was arrested after law enforcement came to his Tschudi Road home for another issue. Officers then began to investigate the living conditions of the home.

Amory Police said Spratt’s mother also suffers from a medical condition.

Investigators said the woman was unable to move around the home or even go to the restroom.

She was taken to the hospital to be examined.

Spratt was the caretaker for his mom.

He’s charged with vulnerable adult abuse or neglect.

Spratt remains in the Amory jail.

Columbus Police search for Tractor Supply robbery suspect

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI, CPD)- A Tractor Supply employee was robbed while leaving work late Saturday night. Now, Columbus Police are searching for the suspect.

CPD said they are looking for a 5 foot 9 inch tall black male.

The suspect confronted the store employee around 9:30 p.m., after the Highway 45 North location closed.

The suspect then forced the employee to reenter the store as part of the robbery.

Investigators said certain actions from the suspect lead them to believe he may be a former employee.

The suspect was also seen traveling on foot.

No one was injured in the incident.

Clay County man accused of animal cruelty

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Clay County man was accused of starving a horse so badly that it needed to be put down.

Perry Cummings, 66, was charged with animal cruelty.

Sheriff Eddie Scott said his officers found three starving horses at Cumming’s property last week.

One was put down by deputies. The two others were rescued Tuesday.

Scott said investigators finally tracked Cummings down Monday.

He’s been released from jail on a $1,100 bond.

Columbus man wanted for alleged crime in Sherwood Drive area

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus man is wanted for allegedly stealing a firearm, during a string of car burglaries.

Jeremiah Antonio Payne, 20, has an outstanding warrant.

Investigators said the crimes happened in the Sherwood Drive area.

Anyone with information on Payne’s whereabouts should call the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, at 328-1136 or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-530-7151.

Lowndes County woman charged with credit card fraud

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Most of us would go to prison for our kids.

Lowndes County investigators said one woman will do exactly that, joining her daughter behind bars.

Laura Pope has been charged with credit card fraud.

Lt. Tony Cooper said Pope used someone’s credit card information to put money in what’s believed to be her daughter’s canteen prisoner account.

Her daughter is being held at a Mississippi Department of Corrections Facility in Central Mississippi.

Pope remains in the Lowndes County jail.

Tupelo woman charged with murder

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A suspect has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in an apartment in Tupelo

Ambra Zinn, 30, has been charged with murder.

The victim was identified as Kelly Conway, 51, by Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green.

Green says initial autopsy results show a gunshot wound as the cause of death.

Conway was found dead Monday morning in a small apartment attached to a home in the 1000 block of Eisenhower Drive.

The case remains under investigation.

Two charged with armed robbery in Oktibbeha County

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A ride in Oktibbeha County turned into an armed robbery that has a lot of unanswered questions.

Joshua Reed, 21, of Starkville, and Kody McNair, 20, of Hattiesburg, have been charged with armed robbery.

Deputies were called to The Pointe Apartments late last month.

Investigators said the incident started at The Pointe and ended on Highway 12. At some point, the victim was held-up at gunpoint.

He then drove back to the apartment complex and called for help.

Other charges and arrests are possible.

Man accused of trying to run over Lowndes County deputy

PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) – A Pickens County man was accused of trying to run over a Lowndes County deputy during a high-speed chase.

James Michael Prestridge, 44, has been charged with attempted murder in Pickens County. Once he’s brought to Mississippi, Prestridge will be charged with felony fleeing.

A Lowndes County deputy stopped Prestridge on Mt. Vernon Road about 9:30 Wednesday night but he drove away.

Prestridge stopped a second time near Highway 182 and fled after an altercation with deputies.

Deputies originally tried to pull him over for possibly driving under the influence.

Investigators said the pursuit went into Pickens County, where speeds reached over 90 miles per hour.

Prestridge was accused of attempting to run over a deputy on County Road 30, just across the state line.

The deputy fired shots but Prestridge continued to run for a short time.

No word on when he will be brought to Mississippi to face charges.

Macon woman facing drug charges after bust at her home

MACON,  Miss. (WCBI) – A Macon woman is facing drug charges after a bust at her home Thursday morning.

Paula George, 63, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent, possession of marijuana and stolen property. She’s also facing a possession of paraphernalia charge.

Macon police said they were tipped-off about drugs being at George’s Washington Street home.

Investigators found crystal meth inside the house.

George was taken to the Noxubee County Jail.

Police Chief Davine Beck says more busts will happen when more residents come forward to talk about drug activity in the community.

Shooting leaves one man dead in Lowndes County

CRAWFORD, Miss. (WCBI)- A family dispute ends in gunfire in the southern part of Lowndes County in the community of Crawford.

Investigators say the shooting happened at 1587 Starkville Road.

Chief Deputy Greg Wright says one man was fatally shot in the chest.

Mathiston man killed in motorcycle accident

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Mathiston man was killed in an early morning motorcycle accident in Oktibbeha County.

Deputies were called to Brown Road, just before 8 a.m.

Investigators said the motorcycle 70-year-old Billie Jones was driving ran off the roadway and crashed. It’s the only vehicle believed to be involved in the accident.

A passerby saw the crash and called first responders.

Oktibbeha County deputies are investigating the deadly crash.

Two dead, one injured in Winona murder-suicide

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Two people are dead and another injured in an early morning Winona murder-suicide.

Officers heard gunshots as they arrived at 504 Montgomery Street, about 1:30 a.m.

One victim was found in the front yard of the home. She had been shot two times.

Officers then found a female in the front seat of an SUV. She had also been shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Investigators said they found a man lying beside the SUV. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The unidentified victim found in the front yard was flown to a Jackson hospital.

Detectives said she was able to give some information to them about what happened before she was taken for medical treatment.

The investigation is continuing.

Winona police are not releasing any names at this time.

Tupelo police searching for police chase suspect

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A police chase in Tupelo came to a halt after the driver crashed and is still on the run.

Tupelo police tried to stop a black Dodge Charger in the Hilda Avenue area.

Officers were conducting a safety checkpoint and said the car tried to go the other direction.

The chase continued through Fair Park and east on Main Street.

Police ended the chase in around skyline.

Police then got reports the car crashed in the Lee and Itawamba County area but the driver ran off on foot.

Police are working to identify who that car belonged to.

Lowndes County man charged with domestic violence – aggravated assault

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County man was accused of trying to choke his girlfriend and dropping a machete on her foot.

Jeremy Vasser, 42, has been charged with domestic violence-aggravated assault.

Investigators said Vasser woke the victim up and was holding a dress and a machete.

Deputies were told that Vasser accused her of cheating. The two argued and she was allegedly choked.  At some point, the machete was dropped and landed on the woman’s foot.

She went to the hospital for treatment

Vasser’s bond was set at $20,000.

Two people from Iuka are facing drug charges.

TISHOMINGO, Miss. (WCBI) Two people from Iuka are facing drug charges.

Rozelyn Cast and Zachary Crum were both arrested at a local motel, Wednesday.

Tishomingo County Sheriff’s deputies made the arrests after hearing complaints about drug use at that motel.

Deputies found several people along with alleged meth and other items used to smoke and transport drugs inside a motel room and inside vehicles.

Cast is charged with felony conspiracy to sell.

Crum is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

The duo was transported to the Tishomingo county jail

Drug arrest in Tishomingo

TISHOMINGO, Miss. (WCBI)- A traffic stop in Tishomingo County on Wednesday ends up being much more after investigators find a large amount of alleged meth in the vehicle.

39-year-old Jonathan Durham is charged with felony possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

The Tishomingo County Sheriffs Department says Durham had been under surveillance by narcotics investigators due to alleged illegal activity.

He was arrested in reference to narcotics being delivered to the Belmont, Burnsville, and Iuka area.

Durham’s bond is set at twenty thousand dollars.
