Amory man accused of stabbing woman during argument

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – An early morning stabbing has landed an Amory man in jail.

Larry Daniel, 63, was charged with Aggravated Assaulted after Amory police said he stabbed a woman.

Lieutenant Andy Long said it happened around two o’clock on Monday morning at home on 109th street.

He said Daniel and a woman were in an argument.

At some point investigators said the man went into the kitchen to get a knife and stabbed the victim one time.

She was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Amory and is expected to be okay.

Teenage girl injured after being hit by gunfire from argument

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A teenager was injured after being in the wrong place at the wrong time when gunfire erupts.

Columbus Police said Desi John Harris Jr., 29, was charged with felony accessory after the fact of aggravated assault.

Police said Saturday night they were called to the 1500 Block of 12th Avenue South.

Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said there was an argument between two people that ended with gunfire.

A 14-year-old girl was hit in the ankle by a bullet and is expected to be okay.

Police said they’re still looking for another man involved in the incident.

Harris is in the Lowndes County Detention Center.

Former Webster County sheriff and chief investigator sentenced

CHOCTAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Former Webster County Sheriff Tim Mitchell and former Webster County Chief Investigator Landon Griffin appeared in court Tuesday morning for sentencing.

Mitchell will spend 15 years in prison and serve five years probation

Mitchell had pled guilty to two counts of embezzlement and two counts of trafficking stolen firearms.

Griffin will spend 10 years in prison and serve five years on probation.

Griffin had pled guilty embezzlement and transferring a stolen firearm.

Teen injured in suspected road rage incident

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A teen received a head injury after a brick was thrown through his windshield in a suspected road rage incident.

The incident happened Monday night when the teen was driving on the Natchez Trace Parkway, near the Highway 6 overpass in Tupelo.

The teen has a large cut on the top of his head, but does not have any serious injuries.

The suspect was driving a tan or gray late 1990’s or early 2000’s sedan.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Natchez Trace emergency line at 1-800-300-PARK.

Man accused of trying to sell stolen items online

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An attempt to make a quick buck landed a suspected home burglar in jail.

Ricky Long, 49, of Columbus was charged with burglary of a dwelling.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said Long allegedly posted stolen items from a Clay County home on a buy, sell and trade site.

Investigators with both Clay and Lowndes County initiated a sting operation to buy an autographed University of Alabama basketball.

Sheriff Scott said other stolen items were recovered and suspects Long had worked as a contractor for the homeowners before the burglary.

He encouraged people to change their locks after construction projects are completed.

Arrest made in connection with weekend shooting that injured teen

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police have made a second arrest in connection with a weekend shooting that left a 14-year-injured.

Police arrested Justin Dunlap, 27, on Tuesday. He’s charged with aggravated assault.

The shooting happened Saturday night after an argument between two people in the 1500 block of 12th Avenue South.

A 14-year-old girl was hit in the ankle, by a bullet, and is expected to be okay.

Police arrested Desi John Harris Jr., 29, earlier this week and charged him with felony accessory.

Both men are in the Lowndes County Jail.

Louisville man accused of being involved in drug activity with juveniles

LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A man Louisville police believe may be involved in drug activity with juveniles has been arrested.

Police Chief Sean Holdiness said Reginald Moore, 27, is charged with transfer of a controlled substance.

Holdiness said his department is investigating Moore’s possible connection to an attack involving several juveniles that was recorded and circulated on social media.

WCBI has obtained photos of Moore, reportedly acting as a mentor, and speaking to students at the alternative school in Louisville.

Moore had an initial appearance in municipal court Thursday afternoon.

His bond was set at $10,000.

Woman indicted on murder charge in husband’s death in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Monroe County grand jury has ruled on a shooting death from earlier in the year.

Ellen Huebner, 46, is now indicted on a murder charge after being accused of killing her husband Steven Huebner.

His body was found March first in the backyard of the couple’s home on Buck Road in Monroe County.

He had been reported missing in late February by co-workers at Columbus Air Force base.

Preliminary autopsy results showed Steven Huebner was shot several times.

Woman indicted on murder charger in April shooting death

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – A Monroe County murder indictment ties back to an April shooting death in Aberdeen

District Attorney John Weddle said the Monroe County grand jury agreed with Aberdeen police that Lillian Cayson likely killed Mose Lee Daniels in April

The shooting took place after Cayson and Daniels argued over a repossessed van.

Statements say Cayson told the car lot holding the loan on the van where it was hidden so the car dealer could repossess the van.

The next day Daniels and Cayson clashed over that claim and Cayson shot him

Three arrests made after string of burglaries in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Three people face charges after a series of car burglaries and thefts in Lowndes County.

Monroe Richards Jr.,19, Tavion Drungo, 19,  and Jeremiah Payne, 20, face charges ranging from felony taking of a motor vehicle, auto burglary, possession of a stolen firearm, and conspiracy.

On Tuesday, Lowndes County investigators received multiple reports of stolen property and car break-ins on Sherwood Drive, Maid Marion Circle, and Robin Hood Circle.

During the thefts, several guns were stolen from cars.

A 2016 Honda Pilot was also taken from a Sherwood Drive home.

On Wednesday, Columbus police officers spotted three people in a stolen car and conducted a traffic stop.

Two of the suspects fled from the car, and the driver was arrested.

During the investigation, officers were able to connect the suspects to a string of burglaries.

Some of the stolen items were recovered, including two firearms, and the Honda Pilot.

Investigators said they discovered another stolen car, and also uncovered a plot to steal another car.

This case is still on-going, and more arrests are expected.

Woman accused of crashing wedding, stealing gifts

FLORENCE, Ala. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi woman was accused of attending a wedding she wasn’t invited to, and then taking the newlywed’s gifts.

Sandra Henson, 53, of Rienzi, was charged with theft of property 3rd degree and theft of property 4th degree in Florence, Alabama.

In a press conference Friday, Florence Police Department Detective Josh Hein said Henson allegedly took gifts from two local weddings while also eating dinner at least one of the weddings.

Her bond has been set at $2,500 in Florence.

Overnight shooting leaves Columbus man dead, suspect in custody

COLUMBUS, Miss (WCBI)- a Columbus man has died following an overnight shooting.

According to Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton, the victim is 28-year-old Marty Christopher Moore.

Around 12:30, Columbus police responded to a shots fired call, at the 2200 block of 9th Avenue South.

Chief Fred Shelton said the suspect and the victim got into an argument, that quickly escalated into violence.

Moore was then shot multiple times.

The suspect is in custody and is expected to be charged Wednesday.

This case is still under investigation.

FBI searching for Corinth man accused of drug trafficking

UPDATE: Hughey is in custody as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday 

CORINTH, Miss. (WCBI) – The FBI is searching for a Corinth man who is considered armed and dangerous.

Kennoris Hughey, 37, is accused of drug trafficking in Northeast Mississippi in early 2017.

Hughey is a known member of the Gangster Disciples street gang in Corinth.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for Hughey on July 25 after he was charged with drug distribution conspiracy.

If you have any information on Hughey, you are asked to call your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.

Man & woman arrested, accused of growing marijuana

TISHOMINGO COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- An Iuka man and woman are facing drug charges after Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents say they were growing marijuana.

Investigators say they found seven marijuana plants. Investigators also allege they found methamphetamine at a home on County Road 190 in Iuka.

Donna Evans, 65, and Chester Seago, 55,  are both charged with Manufacturing of Marijuana. Evans is also charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

The bust happened after investigators learned drugs were possibly being sold at the residence on County Road 190. Investigators issued a search warrant then found the drugs.

Evans and Seago are in the Tishomingo County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

Arrest made in fatal Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Multiple sources have confirmed an arrest was made in a deadly Columbus shooting.

Marty Christopher Moore, 28, was shot multiple times on 22nd Street South, about 12:30 Wednesday morning.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Moore died a short time later at a Columbus hospital.

Our sources said Aaron Mitchell, 27, of Columbus, has been charged with murder.

Police Chief Fred Shelton said there was an argument before the gunfire started.

CPD has confirmed a person is in custody but has not released any additional details.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Columbus man pleads guilty to child pornography charge

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County man pled guilty to a federal child pornography charge.

Nathan Kyles pleaded guilty to having a cell phone that had pictures or video of minors engaging in sexually explicit behavior.

There was a second charge that was dropped in the plea deal.

Lowndes County investigators were tipped off in 2018 about Kyles possibly storing the images of children simulating or having sex.

A warrant led deputies to a Dropbox Internet storage account where the pictures were found.

Kyles will be sentenced in November.

California man accused of several child sex charges in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A California man was accused of getting a Lowndes County teen to send him sexually explicit pictures of video.

Ryan Abrams was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly coercing or enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, along with receiving visual materials of the minor engaging sexually explicit conduct on Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram.

Abrams was also indicted for a charge of allegedly enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, which also violates California law. The age of consent there is 18.

Lowndes County Detective Lt. Tony Cooper said the sheriff’s office is working with several agencies in the investigation.

Abrams lives in the Los Angeles area.

Investigators believed the reported incidents happened in March and April of this year.

Abrams faces up to life in prison for one of the charges and over $750,000 in fines.

Death to be investigated as homicide in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man is dead in Monroe County and investigators are searching for a killer.

The unidentified victim was found just before 4 a.m., in the 2200 block of Highway 45 North.

Deputies put up crime scene tape outside of a home, which is between Aberdeen and Wren.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley said this will be investigated as a homicide.

Gurley identified the victim as William Elliott, 36, of Caledonia.

He did not say how Elliott died.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is being brought in to investigate.

Our sources said the victim is from Caledonia.

Maben man charged with child sex crime

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Maben man has been accused of a child sex crime.

Lawrence Johnson, 26, was charged with sexual battery.

Oktibbeha County investigators said they were contacted by Child Protective Services in early July.

The alleged juvenile victim has been interviewed and charges were later filed.

Johnson could face more charges in another county.

His bond is set at $250,000.
