Two Teachers Arrested In Yalobusha County

WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WCBI) – Two teachers are arrested after allegedly having a student obtain prescription drugs for them.

Alana Harris and Jill Todd are charged with Inducing a Minor to Commit a Felony.

The two were arrested yesterday, October 23, after reportedly having the 16 year-old get Lortab and Adderrall for them.

According to Assistant District Attorney Steve Jubera, the student was never in any danger and is being viewed as a victim.

It’s unclear if either woman has an attorney and there has been no confirmation if the teachers were still employed.

Name Released In Prentiss County Crash

PRENTISS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The name of a man killed in a fiery crash, after fleeing from law enforcement, is released.

Prentiss County Coroner Greg Sparks says the driver of the vehicle was Scotty Davis.

State troopers say Davis turned off his lights and turned around when approaching a safety checkpoint on Highway 4 in Booneville.

There was a pursuit down Carolina Road and ended when Davis crashed his vehicle into a tree on October 16th.

He died at the scene.

Man Arrested After For Alleged Terrorist Threat

TISHOMINGO COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Georgia man is accused of making terroristic threats to Tishomingo County Courthouse employees, shortly after the Las Vegas mass-shooting.

While trucking for Tyson foods, Bernard Sylvester Hird Junior was issued a citation by MDOT for failure to stop at the scales office.

Investigators say after refusing to pay the additional fees for missing his court date, the Jonesboro, Georgia resident began to threaten the Justice Court employee over the phone.

Hird was picked up at a traffic stop near Atlanta on Sunday, October 22.

He was extradited to the Tishomingo County Jail earlier today.

Bond has not been set.

Death Investigation In Baldwyn

BALDWYN, Miss. (WCBI) – The investigation continues into the apparent murder of an elderly Baldwyn resident.

The body of 70 year-old Henry Adams Junior was found inside his home Monday afternoon. Crime scene investigators, including agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, were called to the residence.

Adams was known for selling used cars at his property for decades.  Baldwyn Police Chief Troy Agnew confirms Adams’ wallet was found on a bridge on nearby Sand Hill Road.

Ira Grice has lived near Adams for years.  He says Adams was a great neighbor, and he hopes authorities quickly catch whomever is responsible.

“He was a very nice person, very quiet, kept to himself, I notice he didn’t drink anything, or smoke any cigarettes, he was just a nice person, it makes you feel kind of nervous, it’s not a good feeling, very, funny feeling,” Grice said.

Grice also points out there was a lot of traffic at Adams’ residence, because of his used car business.  Adams’ body was sent to the state crime lab in Pearl for an autopsy.   Anyone with any information is asked to contact authorities.

West Point Police Make Large Drug Bust

WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release) – On 10/20/2017, Corporal Freddie Bardley was on patrol when he noticed a subject who was allegedly involved in a burglary of a residence. After approaching the subject, the subject fled on foot. Cpl. Bardley gave chase, but was unable to apprehend the subject. While pursuing the subject, he contacted Officer Kyle Eaves to go over to the street the subject was last seen. After an exhaustive search, the subject was not located. Officer Eaves got into Cpl. Bardley’s vehicle so that he could take him back to his vehicle. While enroute to get his vehicle, Officer Eaves noticed a black male subject on Meadowbrook Drive sitting in a tan Chevrolet Blazer. He stated that the subject looked similar to the person they had just pursued and that when they passed him, he dropped his head in order not to make eye contact as they passed. Officer Eaves noticed that this was very suspicious. After approaching the vehicle, Officer Eaves could smell a strong odor of marijuana and saw a bag of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana in the subject’s lap. Officer Eaves asked the subject to give him the marijuana, the subject complied. Officer Eaves placed the marijuana on the hood of the subject’s vehicle and asked the subject to step out of the truck. Officers Eaves stated that as he was about to place the subject under arrest, the subject pulled away and fled on foot. Officers Eaves and Cpl. Bardley chased the subject instructing him to stop, but the subject continued to flee. The subject was ordered to stop, but refused. During the foot pursuit and in order to get the subject stopped, the officer deployed his taser. The subject fell to the ground after being tased and was immediately handcuffed by Cpl. Bardley. The subject sustained minor injuries due to being tased and falling. An ambulance was dispatched to check on the subject’s injuries. After a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers found one and half pounds of marijuana, 433 grams of crystal methamphetamines (ice) and 35 Hydrocodone pills. Officers seized over $18, 000 dollars in cash and the Chevy Blazer.

The subject has been charged with Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, Aggravated Trafficking which was based on the amount of Crystal Meth found in his possession(Amount over 30 grams constitutes Aggravated Trafficking) and Possession of Controlled Substance (Schedule II Narcotic).

The subject was arraigned before Judge Bennie Jones and his bond was set at 175,000 dollars.

Person Of Interest In Church Break-Ins

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department needs your help locating a person of interest.

James Chris Stanley, of Aberdeen, is considered a person of high interest in six church break-ins.

According to Sheriff Cecil Cantrell, the break-ins happened in the Southeast part of the county between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, October 22.

Nursing Home Shooting

RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) – Police say a man shot his former girlfriend and a second man outside a central Mississippi nursing home, wounding both. Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal tells local media that the second man was waiting to pick up the woman from work when the ex-boyfriend showed up early Thursday morning.

After a disturbance, Neal says the ex-boyfriend shot the other two people. The second man, shot multiple times, is seriously wounded.

The woman, shot once in the lower body, is less seriously wounded. Police haven’t released the names of anyone involved.

They’re looking for the first man, who left after the shooting, and Neal urges him to surrender to police. Neal says residents at Highland Home, which provides nursing and rehabilitation, were never in danger.

Alleged Liquor Thief

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – An Oxford man is accused of breaking into a bar and making away with just two bottles of liquor.

54 year-old Franklin Manning is who investigators say broke into the Round Table Bar and took the bottles.

Manning was found shortly after the report was received and charged with one count of Commercial Burglary on Tuesday, October 24.

His bond is set at $1,500.

Identity Fraud Arrest

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus woman, turns herself in for stealing money from an account.

Yesterday, October 26, Carolina Griffin turned herself into investigators of the Columbus Police Department, on an outstanding felony warrant.

Griffin has been charged with Fraudulent Use of Identity.

The charges allege Griffin transferred money from an account, she was not supposed to have access to, and used it to pay personal debt without consent from the account holder.

Griffin was taken before Municipal Court Judge Ellis, for her initial appearance.

Griffin’s bond was set at $2,500.

Child Endangerment Arrest

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County woman is accused of giving birth to child with drugs in its system.

38 year-old Holly Abigail O’Callaghan is charged with child endangerment.

Chief Deputy Marc Miley says O’Callaghan gave birth back in July.

Tests were done on the child and it is now in the custody of the Department of Human Services.

O’Callaghan is out of jail on a $2,500 bond.

Video: Authorities Searching For Chickasaw County Resident In Connection With Verona Murder

VERONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Authorities are searching for the suspect in a fatal shooting of a Verona teenager .

It was around 2 Thursday afternoon, when 17 year old Lorenzo Wright Junior was standing outside a residence on Clement Street in Verona.

Witnesses say a black male in a white car shot Wright, then sped away.  The 17 year old, who lives near the crime scene, died a short time later at NMMC.

Now, Verona Police Chief J B Long says investigators have a good lead on the shooter, and they are trying to find him and get him off the streets.

“We will find him, the agency, I faxed my warrant to that county where he is a resident, they’ve been by his house, suspect was not home,knowing who he is, the type vehicle he drives, so , just a matter of time.  Well most definitely he’s dangerous, we consider him armed and dangerous, anybody who comes in contact with him, they should take extreme caution, knowing what he has done,” Chief Long said.

Thursday’s murder is the first homicide this year for Verona.  Chief Long says if anyone knows where the suspect is, they should call 911 or Crimestoppers.

BREAKING: Arrest Made In Fatal Verona Shooting

VERONA, Miss. (WCBI)- 24 hours after a shooting that left a teenager in Verona dead, police have a person in custody.

Verona Police Chief JB Long says late Friday, a 24 year old man turned himself in to the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office.

The chief says deputies there searched all day Friday for this suspect who’s being taken to the Lee County Jail.

17 year old Lorenzo Wright Junior, police say was shot while standing outside his home in Verona Thursday around 2 p.m. on Clement Street.

Witnesses told police the alleged shooter drove off in a white car.

Wright died a short time later.

TUPELO, Miss.(WCBI) – An arrest has been made in the shooting that took place after a concert last night at the Bancorp South Arena parking lot.

22 year old Steven Michael Hubert has been charged with aggravated assault.

Witnesses reported hearing an argument among a group of males and afterwards 4 to 6 shots followed.

A man approached a deputy saying he was shot.

He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and later released for a gunshot wound.

Hubert is currently in the Lee County Adult Jail. He is scheduled for his initial court appearance on Monday.

Hamilton Pastor Arrested In Kentucky Sex Sting Operation

DANVILLE, KY (WCBI) – A Monroe County pastor and Columbus restaurant owner is arrested in an online child sex sting operation in Kentucky.

Michael Shane Cruse, 46, is charged with unlawful transaction with a minor 1st degree – illegal sex act under the age of 18 and prohibited use of electronic communication system to procure a minor or peace officer, sexual offense.

Cruse was arrested this past Saturday in Danville, Kentucky.

Court documents accuse Cruse of starting an online chat and arranging to meet a 16 year-old gay teen for a sexual act.

That teen was really an undercover detective in Boyle County, Kentucky.

The court documents, signed by a the dectective, claim Cruse knew the age of the person he was meeting.

According to Cruse’s Facebook page, he is the pastor and founder at Restoration Life Church in Hamilton.

He’s also been associated with several other churches in the Columbus area.

Cruse also owns two restuarants in Columbus.

He is free on a $20,000 bond.

Investigators Say A Disagreement Leads To Crawford Shooting

CRAWFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – A woman is facing aggravated assault charges after allegedly shooting at another woman in Crawford on Sunday, October 29.

Deputies say the alleged victim told them Harrell pulled a gun, and shot at her as she was heading home.

58 year-old Jesse Harrell was arrested after deputies found her walking on George Bridges Road with a gun.

The victim stated that she and Harrell disagreed on an incident from that morning.

Another witness confirmed the story to deputies.

Harrell was booked in to the Lowndes County Detention Center facing charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Dollar Store Burglary Lands One In Jail

NEW HOPE, Miss. (WCBI) – The New Hope Dollar General Store was the victim of a weekend burglary.

Lowndes County Deputies were called to an alarm just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday, October 29. When they arrived they found the front glass door shattered.

Deputies noticed some items had been taken from the store.

During the investigation, officers noticed some of the stolen property in front of a home on Center Street.

Officers spoke with 32 year-old Joshua Newell and found enough evidence to take him in to custody.

Fire In Lee County Jail

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Lee County correctional officers battled with an inmate after he started a fire in a housing unit.

Around 5:30 this morning, October 31, inmate Rico Lyons started a fire in housing unit F, where 20 inmates were held.

The video, shown above, was taken shortly after and shows Lyons using a mattress and mop to prevent staff from entering the unit.

Lyons’s fire was eventually extinguished, but around 50 beds were damaged across two housing units.

Rico Lyons has an extensive criminal history, racking up 13 charges since 2013.

After today’s incident, Lyons was charged with Second Degree Arson and 6 Counts of Assault on Correction Officer.

Details Emerge On Undercover Sting Operation

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – New details have been released in an online undercover sting in Kentucky over the weekend that led to the arrest of a local pastor.

Boyle County Deputies say eight adults were arrested as deputies went undercover using a popular dating app, they say is being used to solicit minors for sex.

Those charged range from a man from Texas and 46-year-old Michael Shane Cruse of Columbus.

Cruse is also the pastor and founder of Restoration Life Church in Hamilton, according to his Facebook page.

The video above shows a look at where Boyle County, Kentucky.

Deputies say two of the individuals arrested are repeat offenders and have faced similar charges.

Cruse is out of jail on a $20,000 bond.

 

The arrest of local pastor and Columbus resident, Michael Shane Cruse leaves unanswered questions for his congregation.

WCBI went to Cruse’s apartment to try and get some answers, but no one was home.

He is charged with unlawful transaction with a minor in the first degree.

MONROE CO, Miss. (WCBI)- The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is searching for two men, who they think committed several burglaries together.

James Chris Stanley, of Aberdeen, has a half a dozen felony warrants out for his arrest, regarding six church break-ins. Investigators are also looking for Travis Jackson.

Monroe County Sheriff, Cecil Cantrell, says Jackson was a person of interest at first, and now they have enough information for an arrest. Cantrell says he believes the two men committed the weekend crime spree, burglarizing one church after the other.

The break-ins happened in the Southeast part of the county, between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Fire Chief Arrested

PRENTISS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A local volunteer fire chief has been arrested for embezzling.

Nathan Vuncannon, Fire Chief of the Jumpertown Fire Department, was served a search warrant for his residence last week.

During the search, several items were seized and Vuncannon was charged with Embezzlement.

It’s believed the fire chief took the money from his fire department between April and October of this year.

A Professional Bond Only was set at $120,000.

The case is still under investigation.
