Auto Burglary suspect is in custody

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)- A man wanted for auto burglary in West Point is in police custody Saturday night.

Police Chief Avery Cook says 22-year-old Demarcus White Turned himself in this afternoon.

Police have been looking for him since Thursday when he was reportedly spotted trying to break into a car at South Side Elementary. The school’s resource officer chased him and suffered a broken arm.

The incident prompted school officials to place the school under a lockout for several hours.

White is charged with four counts of auto burglary and simple assault on a police officer. He’s being held in the Clay County Jail. Bond has not been set.

Three arrested on drug charges in Amory

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Three men are facing drug charges in Amory.

Luneal Dobbs was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Charles Hadaway was charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

John Humphries was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Amory police said they were called to a 7th Avenue home on Sunday afternoon about a suspicious person. Once they arrived, they say drugs were found.

Humphries has a 7th Avenue address.

All three men are out on bond.

Police searching for West Point aggravated assault suspect

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – West Point Police Department is searching for an aggravated assault suspect.

Timothy Birchfield, 52, of West Point, is wanted for an assault that happened at Quick and Easy Deli on September 7.

Birchfield’s last known address was on Grove Street.

If anyone has information on Birchfield’s location, they’re asked to call the West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244  or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.

Pickens County man accused of sexual abuse of a child

PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) – A Pickens County man has been indicted on child sex crimes.

Alex Maughan, 18, was charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age.

He’s accused of touching a female child.

Bond was set at $300,000 for Maughan.

He was booked into the Pickens County Jail Monday morning and has been released on bond.

Second arrest made after video goes viral of fight in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A second arrest has been made after a viral video showed several young men fighting in Starkville last weekend.

Dakota Husser, 23, of Biloxi, was charged with simple assault.

Starkville Police Department said his arrest stemmed from the fight that happened early Sunday morning on the front lawn of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Starkville’s Cotton District.

The fight captured on video remains under investigation and more arrests are expected.

Joint investigation leads to 12 drug arrests in Tishomingo County

TISHOMINGO COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A joint investigation between the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics has led to 12 drug arrests over the past few weeks.

Aimee Lewis, 47, of Iuka was charged with sale of a controlled substance.

Lewis’s bond was set at $10,000.

Johnathan Durham, 39, of Iuka, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) with intent to sell.

Lewis’s bond was set at $20,000.

Rozelyn Cast, 20, of Iuka, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) with intent to sell.

Cast’s bond was set at $7,500.

Jeffrey Flack, 47, of Iuka, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with 1,500 of a school, felony tampering with evidence, felony introduction of narcotics into a correctional facility and sale of controlled substance.

Flack’s bond was set at $30,000.

Patricia Lambert, 47, of Iuka, was charged with sale of controlled substance.

Lambert’s bond was set at $7,500.

Jeffrey Gober, 45, of Belmont, was charged with two counts of sale of a controlled substance and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Gober’s bond was set at $20,000.

Kimberly Pettigo, 43, of Dennis, was charged with two counts of sale of a controlled substance.

Pettigo’s bond was set at $10,000.

Jimmy Quillen, 65, was charged with two counts of sale of a controlled substance.

Bobby Voyles, 42, of Burnsville, was charged with sale of a controlled substance, felony introduction of narcotics into a correctional facility and felony tampering with evidence.

Voyles’ bond has not been set yet.

Otis Farris, 38, of Iuka, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

Farris’ bond was set at $2,500.

Joshua Scott, 40, of Belmont, was charged with sale of controlled substance.

Scott’s bond was set at $7,500.

William Franks, 37, of Cherokee, Alabama, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Franks is currently in the custody of Colbert County, Alabama Sheriff’s Department on an unrelated charge.

Belmont Police Department, Iuka Police Department and Burnsville Police Department also helped in the investigation.

More arrests are expected as the investigation is ongoing to help stop the selling of illegal drugs in the county.

Two more men facing charges stemming from Cotton District fight

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Two men accused of instigating a fight captured on video in Starkville’s Cotton District have been arrested.

Harrison Porter 22, and Stephen Jernigan II, 22, were both charged with simple assault.

Porter was also charged with simple assault stemming from an incident on September 23, 2018. He is accused of assaulting a 53-year-old man on University Drive.

According to Starkville PD, the pair instigated the fight by verbally assaulting an intoxicated female.

The video of the fight on University Drive early last Sunday morning was captured in a now-viral video.

The fight remains under investigation and more arrests are expected.

Woman hit by gunfire at Tupelo apartment

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A woman was hit by gunfire on both of her legs from a shooting at a Tupelo apartment complex.

The female victim was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

She told Tupelo PD she had been hit by the gunfire at Hilldale Apartments, on Monument Drive.

The incident is still under investigation.

Hours long standoff ends peacefully in Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- An hours long stand off in Tupelo.

Police were called to the Westwood Apartments for a reported domestic dispute on Lumpkin Street around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon.

When officers got there, police say the suspect took four family members, including a baby, hostage.

Tupelo’s hostage negotiator arrived, and began talking with the suspect, who released all of his family members. However, the suspect refused to come out.

Police evacuated the entire apartment complex as a precaution while negotiations continued/

The suspect surrendered peacefully around 7:30 Wednesday evening and was arrested.

He could face domestic violence and kidnapping charges.

More details are expected to be released Thursday.

West Point man charged with aggravated assault

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man accused of shooting at someone in Clay County is now facing assault charges.

52-year-old Timothy Birchfield was charged with aggravated assault.

The incident allegedly happened at Quick-and-Easy Deli on September 7.

The victim was not injured, and later gave a statement to the sheriff’s department leading to Birchfield’s arrest.

His bond is set at $50,000.

Duo wanted in connection to stolen property in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding two people wanted in connection to a stolen dump trailer.

Courtney Thompson, 38, and Brian Baughman, 42, may be driving a black Chevrolet Tahoe. The car has Monroe County Tags with the license plate number MIB3358.

The trailer was reported stolen from the City of Columbus, and has since been found on Blaylock Road in Lowndes County.

Anyone who has information on the duo’s location is asked to call Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers.

Fifth arrest made in connection to Cotton District fight

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A fifth arrest was made in connection to a violent fight last weekend in Starkville.

Police arrested Elijah Nelson, 21, of Biloxi. He’s charged with simple assault.

A fight early Sunday morning happened in the Cotton District. Police have arrested who they believe were the instigators of the fight earlier this week.

Police said the large brawl started after two men allegedly verbally assaulted a female.

The fight was caught on video and circulated all over social media.

Police ask anyone with information on the fight to give them a call.

Kentucky escaped inmate captured in Pickens County

PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) – A Kentucky inmate’s run for freedom came to an end in Pickens County.

John Dearhie, 51, was arrested Friday.

Pickens County Sheriff Todd Hall referred all questions to Reform police but no one there was available for comment.

The Kentucky Department of Corrections website listed Dearhie as an escaped prisoner, with four convictions.

He first went in the prison system back in May. Calls to the Kentucky corrections department and state police have not been returned.

The Pickens County website listed Dearhie as being in jail and an escapee from Kentucky.

Duo wanted for theft in Lowndes County arrested

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Two people wanted in a Lowndes County theft were arrested in Clay County.

Courtney Thompson and Brian Baughman were charged with possession of stolen property.

Lowndes County detectives said a trailer that was stolen from a Columbus resident was found out in the county on Blaylock Road.

The duo was arrested by West Point police and Clay County deputies without incident.

They remain in jail.

15-year-old accused of threatening to shoot students at Caledonia school

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A teenager was charged after threatening to shoot fellow students in Caledonia.

The 15-year-old male student has been charged with making terrorist threats under Senate Bill 2141.

The juvenile allegedly told students he had a list of people he hated and was going to shoot them at school.

Caledonia School administrators notified Lowndes County deputies of the threat Monday morning, just after 11.

The suspect was taken to the Lowndes County Juvenile Detention Center.

West Point man leads deputies on two-county chase, foot pursuit

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A West Point man was found hiding in a cotton field, after leading police on high speed chase throughout Alabama and Mississippi.

Jason Eugene Hargove faces several charges including reckless driving, resisting arrest, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Investigators with the Vernon Police Department and the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office said they were trying to pull over Hargrove on Highway 50, but he wouldn’t stop. They then notified Lowndes County deputies that a pursuit was entering into their county.

The 42-year-old was driving a 2006 Ford Fusion that investigators said was reported stolen out of Carroll County, Mississippi.

Lowndes County deputies set up spike strips, eventually disabling Hargrove’s car. Deputies said the suspect then fled on foot, and was found hiding in a cotton field.

Hargrove will also face charges in Alabama.

Choctaw County man to be arraigned on federal pornography charges

CHOCTAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – An Choctaw County man will be arraigned Thursday on federal pornography charges.

Russell Latham, 28, of Ackerman, faces a federal indictment for possession of child pornography.

Court records showed agents seized a computer from Latham in January which had a series of pictures and videos of minors having sex or posing for explicit pictures.

The indictment said some of the victims in the pictures are under 12.

Bond for Latham was set at $5,000 during a Tuesday initial appearance.

Noxubee County man pleads guilty to 2018 shooting

NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Noxubee County man pled guilty to a 2018 shooting.

Don Brown will spend 12 years in prison.

He was sentenced this week in Noxubee County Circuit Court. Brown will also be on probation for five years after his release from jail.

The shooting happened at the Airport Store in the Cedar Creek community in January 2018.

Eric Gullery was shot in the back.

Brown was arrested shortly after the shooting.

Lowndes County mother charged with two counts of child deprivation

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County mother was accused of going to work out-of-state and leaving her kids at home alone.

Priscilla Koger, 25, was charged with two counts of child deprivation.

Lowndes County deputies were called to a West Lodge Street home, in Crawford, this past Sunday.

Investigators learned the three-year-old and nine-year-old had been home alone since Thursday, September, 12. Child Protective Services took custody of the children.

Koger was arrested Tuesday.

She remains in the Lowndes County jail.

Winston County deputies searching for man accused of writing bad checks

WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Winston County deputies are searching for a man accused of peddling bogus checks.

Investigators said this man has written several checks at businesses in Winston County and Louisville over the last several weeks.

The problem — the checks belong to a closed account.

Deputies believe the crooked check writer could be signing off with big purchases in other communities.

Detectives have reason to believe the man is from the Golden Triangle.

Winston County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward if you can help identify him.
