TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Twenty seven people have worked hard the past three years, completing all requirements to graduate out of Drug Court, and get a second chance.

Graduation ceremonies took place Thursday afternoon, October 19, for the First Judicial District Drug Court.

Those going through the three year, intensive program, were convicted of non violent drug related felonies.

They must meet weekly with Judge Jim Pounds,  submit to voluntary , random drug tests, and fulfill other requirements.

“I came out of the district attorneys office after 18 years, I was real leery, of drug court to start with when I started it, but I saw so many repeat offenders coming back through and we had to do something different than what we had been doing and it makes you so proud when you see somebody really beat their addiction,” Judge Pounds said.

First Judicial District Drug Court holds graduation ceremonies once a year.  On Friday,  14 people will graduate in Booneville.
