NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Marcus Gardner is now in custody with the Noxubee County Sheriff’s Department.
He leaves a trail of unanswered questions for friends and family as to why this happened in the first place.
The Tenn-Tom fueling center on Highway 388, just one mile shy of the Alabama state line, was the last place Gardner was seen before being caught by deputies.
Management, as well as people who knew Gardner, both on and off camera, reacted to this shooting, and it was all shock.
It’s something no one expected.
“Guy comes in three or four times a week, had conversations with him, you know, ‘Hey. How are you?’. Never had any trouble with the guy, last person you’d think could kill somebody,” said Tenn-Tom Fueling Center manager, Heath Aldridge.
The Tenn-Tom fueling center is a popular spot for the people in this area of Noxubee County, where there is more of a bond between staff and customers than most places. That’s why so many are stunned after hearing about the deadly shooting.
“This is definitely a community store, you know. You see the same people, build relationships with people. Everybody knows everybody; everybody knows family. It’s definitely a shocker when something like this happens, you know,” said Aldridge.
Friends who knew Gardner would not go on camera, but describe him as a good person who may have substance abuse problem.
They say he and his girlfriend would argue on occasion but not to the point of becoming violent.
“It’s very shocking, something like this in this small community. Everybody around here knows each other, you know. It’s tragic, man,” said resident William Binion.
