COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Former Columbus police officer Canyon Boykin’s defense team submits a list of counties where it believes the manslaughter trial should be held.
A change of venue was granted last month.
The defense and prosecution were both given ten business days to submit a list of potential counties for a judge to review.
As of Tuesday morning, documents from state prosecutors had not been received.
Boykin’s attorneys are asking the judge to consider Walthall, Attala, and Montgomery counties.
The former officer was indicted on a manslaughter charge after the October 2015 shooting death of Ricky Ball, when Boykin worked at CPD.
