COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County jury has been unable to reach a verdict in the Capital Murder case of Traveil Hicks.  Shortly before 7:00 P.M. Wednesday the jury returned saying they were deadlocked.  Judge Lee Coleman declared a mistrial in the case.

Hicks is charged with arson and the capital murder of Gwen Roberson.

Mississippi Deputy Fire Marshal Albert Carver testified today.

Roberson’s home on Downs Road was set on fire following her death.

Hicks was accused of breaking into her home and killing her.

Late Wednesday afternoon the jury announced that they could not come to a unanimous verdict.  The judge sent them back for further deliberations, but they still could not reach decision.

The case will be retried. Hicks was returned to custody.  A date for the retrial has not been set.
