
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – MUW campus is lockdown as of 1:05 p.m. Friday because of a confirmed shooting in front of Whitfield Hall.
Columbus police, Lowndes County deputies and MUW police worked the scene.
Most students are not on campus because classes do not start until January 15.
Columbus Chief of Police Fred Shelton confirmed one person shot and transported to hospital. The degree of injuries is unknown at this time.
As of 3:04 p.m. College St. in front of the MUW campus has been reopened.
The lockdown on MUW’s campus has been lifted as of 3:24 p.m.
Police say that there is no immediate threat to campus and regular activities can resume, but remind people to remain aware of their surroundings.
